Cyclone Komen in late July resulted in massive floods and strong winds have effected more than 1.3 million people across 12 states and regions in Myanmar. On 4th August, the Government of Myanmar welcomed international assistance for the flood response. Floods have inundated more than 1 million acres of farmland. President’s has declared several regions (Chin State, Sagain Region, Magway Region, Bago Region and Ayeyawaddy Region) of the country to be disaster zones, as forecasts of heavy rain for the next few days have heightened fears that already dire flooding in many parts of the country will get worse. Priority need include access to health care, food, water, sanitation, and provision or repair of shelter. Rains and thunderstorms are expected to continue over the coming days across affected areas.
